Job summary

Vast in Long Beach, CA seeks a Senior Avionics Systems Engineer to lead avionics across design, integration, test, and operations for high-power satellites. This full-time role reports to the Senior Manager, Avionics and Power Systems and involves cross-functional collaboration, design trades, and flight readiness activities.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in avionics with systems engineering experience for space systems and travel readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical, aerospace, mechanical or related engineering field.
• 5+ years of avionics design, analysis, system integration, or unit testing experience.
• Experience with systems engineering principles in spacecraft development.
• Experience with lifecycle development for space systems: requirements, design, integration, validation, qualification, operation.

Responsibilities

• Act as responsible engineer for avionics systems across design, integration, test, launch, and operations.
• Define detailed systems design including interfaces, budgets, harnesses, hardware capabilities and fault tolerance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional team to define requirements and lead system trades.
• Architect autonomous behaviors, vehicle modes, and fault responses for mission compliance.
• Develop system-level verification plans for flight hardware and readiness assessments.
• Evaluate vehicle health and perform real-time troubleshooting for root-cause analysis.
• Create and maintain system designs and validation techniques to improve reliability.
• Support process improvement by addressing recurring issues and enabling higher reliability.
• Travel to launch sites or test facilities as needed and mentor engineers.
