Job summary

Varda Space Industries in El Segundo, CA is seeking a Senior Avionics Systems Engineer to lead the design, integration, and testing of avionics for the Winnebago Spaceship, ensuring readiness for launch and reentry through cross‑functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field.
• 5+ years of experience in system design, test planning, and validation.
• Proficiency in Python programming.
• Experience with power supplies, modular DAQ systems, RTD and 4-20mA devices, and general test equipment.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross functional teams to define project scopes, guiding designs from concept to production.
• Develop electrical architecture, system diagrams, and budgets for power, telemetry, channel count, size, and mass.
• Analyze architecture for faults, develop mitigation plans, and support FDlR/operational workarounds.
• Create verification plans for avionics systems on flight and HITL hardware for readiness and compliance.
• Participate in mission operations as an avionics specialist or system operator.
• Oversee integration of Winnebago avionics systems and lead investigations.
• Design, build, and operate HITL testbeds to simulate spacecraft on the ground.
• Develop avionics ground infrastructure and test racks, promoting engineering best practices.
• Mentor and train new engineers to foster learning and continuous improvement.
