Job summary

Ursa Major is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to design, develop, integrate and qualify mission-critical avionics hardware for advanced missile and defense systems. You will own mixed-signal hardware, processor- and FPGA-based cards, power conditioning and interfaces within a multidisciplinary team.

The role spans requirements through production, with emphasis on reliability in harsh aerospace environments and collaboration across FPGA, embedded software, systems, mechanical, and test teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience designing electronic hardware for aerospace/defense/high-reliability.
  • Experience designing mixed-signal PCB assemblies.
  • Strong analog and digital circuit design, signal integrity, power integrity, grounding, and PCB layout principles.
  • Experience with high-speed digital interfaces and buses (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet, RS-422/485).
  • Experience integrating processor-, FPGA-, or embedded electronic systems.
  • Familiarity with power conversion and distribution.
  • Experience with EMI/EMC design and qualification standards (MIL-STD-461, DO-160).
  • Experience supporting hardware integration, verification, and environmental testing.

Responsibilities

  • Design mixed-signal avionics hardware through full lifecycle—from requirements to production release.
  • Develop high-reliability electronic assemblies (processor- and FPGA-based cards, power circuits, interfaces).
  • Support system architecture, trade studies, components, performance analysis.
  • Develop interfaces between hardware, FPGA, embedded software, and test systems.
  • Perform circuit analysis, derating, worst-case analysis, reliability assessments, and FMECA.
  • Support schematic capture, PCB layout reviews, DFM/DFT, and production transition activities.
  • Develop and execute hardware integration, verification, qualification, environmental test plans.
  • Investigate hardware failures, perform root-cause analysis, implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with FPGA, software, systems, mechanical, and manufacturing teams.
  • Support technical reviews and customer design reviews as required.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes and standards.
