Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Component Engineer for the Lunar Permanence team to select and qualify EEE components for high-reliability avionics, supporting procurement and inventory while strengthening testing standards. You will collaborate with engineers and suppliers to ensure robust, safe spaceflight systems.

The role emphasizes leadership in component assessment, obsolescence planning, and maintaining baseline configurations across the product lifecycle within a high‑reliability aerospace

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in component and parts management, avionics hardware development, integration, and/or test.
  • Ability to assess the Bill of Materials for avionics designs against approved vendor/component parts lists and standards.
  • Experience in a design, manufacturing, quality, or reliability capacity.
  • Ability to lead and investigate part advisories and alerts (e.g., GIDEP, ECIA).
  • Experience with managing part change notifications and assessing impact.
  • Experience with obsolescence management of EEE parts.
  • Willingness to travel to supplier locations across the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize features of PLM software systems to improve visibility into the product/component approval lifecycle for all stakeholders.
  • Lead program-wide component level assessment and evaluation activities.
  • Support sustaining engineering and obsolescence management efforts in an EEE components capacity.
  • Develop component level requirements and assist the responsible engineer in design solutions.
  • Develop value-added screening and qualification approaches and methodologies.
  • Ensure compliance to EEE component requirements.
  • Lead sustainment activities to maintain baseline control, with focus on PCN/GIDEP management and proactive obsolescence planning.
  • Enforce baseline control.
