Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a skilled validation engineer to join the Mossville, IL team.

You will validate autonomous workflows, develop test scenarios, and analyze machine data to drive root-cause investigations and product improvements. You will work with HIL benches, MATLAB/Simulink models, and real-time validation tools, coordinating with engineering and leadership on status, risks, and release readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical field.
• Extensive validation, systems integration, or troubleshooting for autonomous off-highway systems.
• Experience validating autonomous systems (e.g., Command for Hauling, MineStar/MineFleet).
• Experience developing validation plans, regression tests, and release evidence packages.
• Experience analyzing machine performance data to support troubleshooting and product improvement.
• Machine Performance Analysis and simulation development experience.
• Strong understanding of V-model verification and agile testing methods.
• Experience with L8 HIL bench operation, MATLAB/Simulink, dSPACE SCALEXIO, ConfigurationDesk, ControlDesk.
• Experience with CAN/J1939, Ethernet/TCP-IP, sensor interfaces and data integration.
• Strong communication skills for status updates, reviews, and stakeholders.
• Knowledge of AI, autonomy, simulation, and sensor fusion preferred.

Responsibilities

• Validate CfH autonomous workflows using HIL benches, simulations, and hardware.
• Develop and maintain validation scenarios, test cases, and evidence packages.
• Analyze real machine data and logs to understand behavior and support root-cause investigation.
• Improve validation coverage and feedback to development teams.
• Support simulation capabilities by using real data to improve fidelity.
• Develop and maintain real-time MATLAB/Simulink models for dynamics and I/O.
• Configure and troubleshoot benches using ConfigurationDesk and ControlDesk.
• Validate communications across CAN/J1939 and Ethernet networks.
• Design wiring harnesses and electrical interfaces for bench systems.
• Document defects with clear reproduction steps and risk context.
• Maintain traceability between requirements, tests, results, and evidence.
