Job summary

JOBY Advanced Development is seeking a Staff Autonomy Systems Engineer to drive end-to-end design, integration, and validation of complex autonomous aircraft systems. You will translate mission objectives into technical requirements, coordinate hardware and software teams, and guide system-level verification and validation efforts.

The role emphasizes defining high-level requirements, decomposing risks, creating roadmaps to increase TRL, and shaping interfaces and test cases.

Qualifications

• BS in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of systems engineering experience on safety-critical vehicles, preferably in aerospace/autonomy.
• Thorough understanding of systems engineering concepts and methods.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate across disciplines.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Derive, allocate, and track technical requirements from top-level mission goals to subsystems; develop ICDs.
• Define and analyze the overall system layout; develop ConOps and perform trade studies.
• Execute the V&V strategy; define test plans and collect verification data.
• Identify technical risks; develop mitigation strategies and plans.
• Lead technical trade studies and functional analyses; support design reviews.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical mentorship.
