Job summary

Ashurst Perkins Coie LLP seeks a 4–7 year associate for its California Projects, Energy, Environment and Resources team. The role focuses on environmental, land use, and energy regulatory work for major infrastructure projects in California and beyond.

The candidate should have deep CEQA/NEPA experience, strong drafting and client-relations skills, and be prepared to mentor junior staff. This position offers a competitive compensation package and a hybrid work framework in a global platform.

Qualifications

• 4–7 years of environmental, land use, or energy regulatory experience at a major Am Law firm, relevant government agency, or highly regarded environmental boutique.
• Deep familiarity with CEQA, NEPA, and related natural resource laws is important.
• Experience representing sponsors of energy and infrastructure projects is highly valued.
• Specialised knowledge of CAISO planning process is highly valued.

Responsibilities

• Advise utilities, energy companies and project developers on federal, state, and local regulatory approvals (CEQA/NEPA).
• Represent clients before regulatory bodies such as CPUC, CEC, BOEM, CCC and State Waters Boards.
• Defend project approvals in federal and state courts.
• Counsel clients through permitting, mitigation frameworks and negotiations.
• Provide transactional support including environmental due diligence and drafting.
