Job summary

Ashurst Perkins Coie LLP in California is seeking a 4th to 7th-year associate to join our California Projects, Energy, Environment and Resources team. You will handle major energy and infrastructure matters, including multi-jurisdictional projects and bet-the-project litigation, with a strong emphasis on CEQA/NEPA compliance and regulatory proceedings.

Qualifications

• Experience in environmental, land use, or energy regulatory matters.
• Deep familiarity with CEQA and NEPA, plus related natural resource laws.
• Experience representing sponsors of energy projects (transmission, wind, solar, storage, water infra).
• CAISO planning knowledge is highly valued.
• Ability to manage matters independently and mentor junior staff.
• Bar admission in California in good standing.

Responsibilities

• Advise on regulatory approvals under CEQA, NEPA and related acts for energy projects.
• Represent clients before CPUC, CEC, BOEM, CCC, CLSC, water boards and local authorities.
• Defend project approvals in federal and state courts.
• Counsel on resource consultation, permitting and mitigation frameworks.
• Conduct environmental and regulatory due diligence and transactional drafting.
• Mentor, supervise, and review junior associates and paralegals.
