Job summary

Duke University is seeking an Associate Controller for Payroll and Tax Compliance in Durham, NC. This remote-capable senior role reports to Finance leadership and directs tax, payroll, fringe benefits, and international operations across Duke University and DUHS.

The position requires a decade of leadership experience, a relevant business degree, and advanced credentials (MBA, CPA, CIA) with SAP or ERP proficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Ten years of progressively responsible experience, including significant management and leadership experience.
• MBA, Master of Accounting (MAcc), CPA, and/or CIA designation preferred; SAP or ERP experience.

Responsibilities

• Tax Compliance and Regulatory Oversight: provide strategic direction and oversee tax compliance for Duke University and DUHS.
• Payroll: oversee payroll operations ensuring accurate and timely payments for 52,000+ university and DUHS employees and students.
• Fringe Benefits Forecasting and Accounting: monthly accounting, reporting and forecasting of fringe benefit expenditures over $1.3B annually.
• International Operations: lead international administrative support and advise on financial, compliance, and operations.
• Lead a team of about 25 professionals and coordinate across multiple stakeholders to mitigate risk and drive excellence.
