Job summary

Amazon.com Services LLC seeks a Principal Manufacturing Engineer to define and drive manufacturing strategy for new product introductions, guiding design for manufacturing and production system architecture in high-volume assembly.

This senior role requires 10+ years across high-volume assembly and rapid prototyping; you will lead cross-functional teams, set readiness criteria, and shepherd transitions from prototype to volume production, while enabling fast learning cycles.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering.
• 10+ years in direct manufacturing engineering across high-volume assembly and rapid prototyping/NPI.
• Experience owning manufacturing strategy for a new product introduction from concept to volume production.
• Experience commissioning, startup, and ramp-up of integrated assembly operations.
• Strong knowledge of assembly methods including mechanical joining, fastening, adhesive bonding, press-fits, automation, and robotics.
• Ability to define strategy and decision criteria for cross-functional teams.
• Ability to influence at a senior level across engineering, product design, and program leadership.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the manufacturing voice in design trades — influence product architecture, tolerance strategy, and material selection in real time.
• Define the end-to-end manufacturing strategy across build iterations: process architecture and transition to volume production.
• Establish frameworks, standards, and decision criteria that guide the broader engineering team.
• Develop and prove out assembly methods with rapid iteration and reconfigurability.
• Define build instrumentation and data capture strategies to maximize learning per build cycle.
• Drive manufacturing line concept, design, requirements, and vendor selection.
• Design quick-turn fixtures and tooling; smart build-vs-buy decisions for tooling.
