Job summary

NeoGenomics seeks an Assay Development Scientist to apply deep expertise in designing and validating assays, including Sanger sequencing, PCR, and NGS, within a regulated Aliso Viejo, CA laboratory on a Monday–Friday day shift.

You will work across wet-lab and data analysis workflows, play a key role in assay development, validation, troubleshooting, and delivering high-quality sequencing data to internal teams and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in cancer genomics or related field preferred
• 8+ years of experience in industry or Ph.D. with 2 years in industry required
• Demonstrate solid understanding of laboratory and analytical techniques
• Develop and deliver complex scientific directions and project plans
• Capture and record complex data accurately with attention to detail
• Communicate effectively through presentations and data visualizations
• Problem solve independently and collaborate within a team
• Operate effectively in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment

Responsibilities

• Design, optimize, and validate primers/probes for Sanger sequencing, PCR, and NGS
• Hands-on execution of wet-lab testing for Sanger, PCR, and NGS workflows
• Analyze and interpret sequencing data using platforms such as Sequencher, SeqScape, Gene Mapper, Innovigene and others
• Perform variant calling, alignment review, and quality assessment for Sanger and NGS datasets
• Identify and troubleshoot data quality issues and recommend corrective actions
• Support assay development, RUO/LDT validations, and troubleshooting
• Evaluate assay quality metrics and implement improvements as needed
• Prepare clear, accurate reports/summaries of sequencing results
