Job summary

NeoGenomics is seeking a Technical Operations Scientist (MB ASCP) to advance diagnostic development and automate procedures in a fast-paced laboratory.

You will lead projects, mentor staff, and ensure quality and compliance with CAP/CLIA and FDA standards, with travel about 25%.

Strong collaboration with cross-functional teams, data-driven decision making, and rigorous documentation are required to drive successful R&D and clinical activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific discipline required. Master’s preferred.
  • Six or more years of equivalent experience (high complexity testing) preferred
  • Familiarity with CAP/CLIA and FDA (GCP or GLP as appropriate) requirements and knowledgeable with the specialty requirements within those organizations
  • Deep understanding of laboratory and/or analytical techniques
  • Nationally: ASCP certification for the assigned specialty, as available
  • CA: Current state license to perform laboratory testing

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical guidance and mentors laboratory staff in molecular techniques.
  • Represents the department in audits, client meetings, and conferences.
  • Leads technical development projects and validates new methods.
  • Trains staff on new procedures implemented in the lab.
  • Expedites workflows to maximize capacity and improves production.
  • Monitors equipment, reagents usage and test procedures performance.
  • Acts as technical resource for problem resolution and client inquiries.
  • Drives project management from initiation to closure.
  • Maintains project timelines and weekly team meetings.
  • Travel approximately 25% (1–2 days/week).

Position Summary:

The Technical Operations Scientist works under general direction and is responsible for conducting scientific and technical development processes leading to the successful completion of company projects including the development of streamlined diagnostic protocols, new methods and automated technology. The Technical Operations Scientist may also serve as the Project Manager and/or Supervisor for assigned projects; where you will supervise project deliverables, manage the sample and data collection process, data monitoring, and all associated project manager tasks.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Provides technical guidance, mentors and directs laboratory technologists and associates in performing molecular techniques
  • Represents the department in a diverse range of settings, including other groups, clients, audits, vendors, conferences
  • Leads technical development projects and executes validation plans
  • Trains all levels of staff on new procedures or protocols implemented in the laboratory
  • Expedites workflows to maximize capacity by evaluating systems and recommending enhancements; as a team player offers feedback to achieve resolution of production problems/issues involving other departments
  • Works closely with management in the monitoring and correction of trends and problems in equipment operation, reagent usage and test procedures performance
  • Serves as a technical resource for the department by investigating and resolving analytical testing problems, recommending a course of action in instances identified as beyond acceptable limits, and responding to non-routine/complex inquires and/or requests from clients and sales representatives
  • Drives all aspects of the project management process from initiation, planning, execution, control and closure
  • Responsible for building and maintaining project timelines for each project, and uses these timelines to track and handle a project’s progress
  • Responsible for periodic (weekly, or as needed) product development team meetings
  • Reviews study metrics for performance and quality with the team and management
  • Works with external and internal teams to ensure that sample acquisition; data collection and distribution of samples to the teams support the R&D and Clinical activities and deliverables
  • Travel: ~25% (1-2 days/week) or as needed, project dependent
