Job summary

ECS Group of Companies in Tempe, AZ seeks an experienced Specification Writer to guide design teams on product selection, edit construction specifications, and ensure compliance with codes and standards throughout all project phases.

The role requires a solid background in architecture or construction, strong technical writing skills, and up-to-date knowledge of building technologies. Collaboration with architects, engineers, and consultants is essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 years of architectural or commercial interiors experience.
• Experience in writing, editing, and developing AIA MasterFormat - 3 part specifications (3+ years).
• CSI membership; CDT certification is a plus; CCS/LEED AP or licensed professional is a plus.
• Valid driver's license if driving for ECS subsidiary.

Responsibilities

• Guide design teams on product selection and prepare/edit construction specifications.
• Ensure compliance with codes, standards, and project requirements across phases.
• Review drawings and write specifications; coordinate with project team and consultants.
• Plan, schedule, and prepare specifications for milestone deliverables.
• Coordinate procurement requirements including Division 01 General Requirements.
• Review consultant specs for conformance with firm standards.
• Conduct product research; assist designers with selections.
• Collaborate with internal architects and other disciplines.
• Stay current on building technologies and trends; advise project teams.
• Assist with submittals, substitutions, and compliance decisions.
