Job summary

ECS Group of Companies in Austin, TX seeks an experienced Specification Writer to guide design teams on product selection and to prepare and edit construction specifications across project phases.

The role requires a strong background in architecture or construction, with deep expertise in specifications writing, and a passion for staying current on building technologies and industry trends. Collaboration with architects, engineers, and consultants is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; Bachelor's in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Building Science or related field preferred.
• 6 years of related architectural or commercial interiors experience.
• 3+ years in writing, editing, and developing AIA MasterFormat - 3-part specifications.
• CSI membership; CDT certification is a plus; CCS/LEED AP or licensed Architect/Engineer a plus.
• If driving for ECS, a valid driver's license is required.

Responsibilities

• Support specification project management and resolve technical/administrative issues.
• Guide design firms on product selection and design considerations.
• Write and edit specifications; ensure conformance with project requirements, standards, and codes.
• Plan and prepare construction specifications for project milestones.
• Prepare and review procurement and contracting requirements, including Division 01.
• Coordinate consultant technical specifications with firm standards and formatting conventions.
• Perform product research and assist designers with material selections.
• Coordinate with internal project teams on specs with other disciplines.
• Stay current on building technology, products, codes, and industry trends.
• Assist construction administration with review of product submittals and substitution requests.
• Handle multiple projects, deliver results on deadlines, and work independently or in a team.
• Attend project meetings with clients and follow up as needed.
• Other duties as required.
