Job summary

Ensono is seeking a Lead Application Modernization Consultant to guide agile delivery teams through architectural and development work for modernization programs in the United States. You will own technical outcomes, mentor engineers, and ensure measurable business value while advancing AI-assisted approaches and reusable patterns.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in software engineering with 3+ years in modernization or delivery leadership.
• Experience leading modernization of large-scale, high-availability applications.
• Hands-on in Java, .NET, or Python and legacy code analysis.
• Experience assessing legacy estates and modernization strategies (rehost/refactor/re‑platform/retire).
• Experience designing distributed systems on Azure, AWS, or GCP.
• Experience setting engineering standards, automation, testing, and ADRs.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools in enterprise environments.
• Strong client-facing communication and technical direction.
• Ownership of technical outcomes and reusable engineering assets.

Responsibilities

• Lead an agile delivery team or significant workstream, owning technical outcomes and developer experience.
• Own technical and delivery risk within your scope and mitigate legacy dependencies and new tech risks.
• Remain hands-on in architecture, design, and development across multiple work packages.
• Drive modernization efforts by assessing legacy codebases and inventories.
• Develop target-state designs with a clear path from legacy to modernized solutions.
• Lead discovery and planning with clients to define problem statements and success criteria.
• Document requirements, ADRs, acceptance criteria, and architectural intent.
• Promote modern developer experience, including AI-assisted tooling for legacy analysis.
• Maintain engineering judgment and transparent documentation of decisions.
• Provide technical leadership within Connected Services and set quality expectations.
