Job summary

Ensono is seeking a Lead Application Modernization Consultant to guide modernization efforts for clients, balancing hands‑on architecture with strategic delivery leadership. You will drive planning, assessments, and modern design patterns while coaching engineers in modern practices and responsible AI usage.

The role emphasizes strong client communication, engineering quality, and measurable business outcomes across cloud platforms, with a flexible remote work model in the United States.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive software engineering, including 3+ years in modernization, cloud architecture, or delivery leadership.
• Experience modernizing large‑scale, high‑availability apps with cloud-native/microservices architectures.
• Hands‑on in Java, .NET, or Python with legacy code analysis ability.
• Experience building inventories and modernization strategies (rehost/refactor/re‑platform/retire/retain/replace).
• Leadership in solution design translating requirements into architectures, ADRs, acceptance criteria, and execution plans.
• Designing distributed systems on Azure, AWS, or GCP focusing on scalability and non‑functional requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead agile delivery teams or workstreams and own technical outcomes and developer experience.
• Identify and mitigate delivery risks from legacy dependencies and new technologies.
• Remain hands‑on in architecture, design, and development across multiple work packages.
• Develop target‑state designs and credible paths from legacy to modernized solutions.
• Lead discovery with clients to define success criteria and priorities.
• Document requirements, architectural intent, ADRs, and acceptance criteria.
• Promote modern developer experience and responsible use of AI tools.
• Ensure architectural decisions are transparent and well documented.
• Provide technical leadership within Connected Services and mentor engineers.
