Job summary

GFL Environmental seeks an Accounts Payable Specialist to lead the AP team within the North American Shared Services Centre in Vaughan, Ontario. The role demands strong accounting expertise, internal controls, and the ability to drive change and process improvements.

You will collaborate with business leaders to support Treasury and Shared Services objectives, manage high-volume data, and ensure timely, accurate AP close while maintaining SOX controls.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in Accounting/Finance or Internal Audit roles.
• Experience in Payments, Accounts Payable or Procurement management as a Manager or Supervisor is ideal.
• Bachelor's degree with a major in finance, business, procurement or accounting.
• Experience with Great Plains or other major Financial ERP system (Microsoft GP is an asset).
• Advanced MS Excel skills.
• Broad based experience in accounting and financial systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead AP clean-up and reconciliations; review aging balances and GLs.
• Create action plans to clear long-outstanding balances and assess risks.
• Oversee monthly AP postings with control checks.
• Support process improvements and internal controls for AP.
• Lead recovery audits and ensure proper GL recording.
• Provide mentorship and leadership to AP team.
