Job summary

Apium Swarm Robotics (ASR) seeks a senior Android developer to own operator-facing applications for drone swarms. You will design GIS-rich planning and control interfaces on Android tablets and rugged devices, integrating DTED data for elevation-aware features and ensuring operation under sunlight and glove use.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional Android development experience, Kotlin preferred
• Strong proficiency with Android Jetpack components, coroutines, lifecycle architecture
• Experience rendering GIS data on mobile, map tiles, vector overlays, and coordinates like WGS84/MGRS/UTM
• Experience consuming DTED data for elevation-aware features (line-of-sight, terrain)
• Familiarity with Android mapping libraries (osmdroid, MapLibre, Mapbox, Google Maps)
• Knowledge of offline map caching, projections, and coordinate transformations
• Experience building real-time, low-latency data pipelines on Android (sockets, WebSockets, MQTT, gRPC, Protobuf)
• UI design for ruggedized devices, outdoor use, sunlight readability, gloves, and unreliable networks
• Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with backend, autonomy, and field engineers
• Self-motivated with calm under operational pressure

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain Android apps for operator-facing swarm planning and control
• Integrate GIS layers and DTED elevation models into map-based interfaces
• Implement real-time telemetry and command/control over various transports (UDP/TCP/WebSockets/MQTT)
• Collaborate with autonomy, backend, and field teams to ship field-tested features
