Job summary

Bitwarden Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer focused on Android to build and maintain the native Android Bitwarden app. You will lead cross-team initiatives, set technical direction, and mentor engineers while ensuring secure, high-quality, user-friendly experiences.

The role is remote in the United States, with no visa sponsorship. You will partner with product and design to shape the Android roadmap and drive architectural decisions across systems.

Qualifications

• Deep expertise developing Android apps with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
• Strong command of Android UI/UX design and architecture for cross-system initiatives.
• Experience setting technical standards and driving adoption across teams.
• Familiarity with unit testing, UI testing, and snapshot testing; able to establish testing standards for others.
• Experience using Claude Code or similar AI coding tools.
• Experience with Android components (Autofill Service, Accessibility Service) and Google Play testing tracks.
• Proven ability to mentor and coach engineers, developing technical talent.
• Comfort with ambiguity and ability to align stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction and standards for the Android platform across the team.
• Lead design and implementation of cross-sprint initiatives with wide impact.
• Own and resolve complex Android problems; define solution space and trade-offs.
• Drive architectural decisions and collaborate with Architecture team.
• Mentor engineers and grow the team's technical capabilities.
• Shape Android roadmap with PM and Design, planning ahead.
• Identify risks and plan phases for large initiatives.
• Lead technical interviews and contribute to calibration.
• Participate in code reviews and knowledge sharing.
• Stay updated on Android trends and champion improvements.
