Job summary

Beta Bionics, Inc. in San Diego, CA seeks a Senior Android Software Engineer to design, build, and maintain Android applications that are integral to our medical device ecosystem.

You will work at the intersection of mobile software, connected medical devices, and patient care, collaborating with embedded software, cloud, systems engineering, cybersecurity, quality, regulatory, product, and clinical teams to develop reliable software that meets both user needs and the rigorous quality

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software development experience.
• Advanced proficiency with Kotlin and the Android SDK.
• Strong knowledge of Android architecture, Jetpack libraries, Kotlin Coroutines and Flow.
• Knowledge of software architecture, OOD, concurrency, and API design.
• Experience designing apps that communicate with external hardware.
• Experience writing automated unit and integration tests.
• Experience diagnosing complex software issues with logs and telemetry.
• Strong Git workflows, CI/CD, and modern engineering practices.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain Android applications using Kotlin.
• Own the architecture and implementation of complex features.
• Develop robust architectures focusing on reliability, maintainability, and security.
• Work with BLE and other protocols to exchange data with devices.
• Collaborate with systems and embedded engineers to define interfaces.
• Translate requirements into designs, implementations, and tests.
• Develop comprehensive unit, integration, and system tests.
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, risk analyses, and RCA.
• Identify software hazards and contribute to risk-control strategies.
• Produce documentation and artifacts for regulated medical device software.
• Support design controls, verification/validation, and regulatory audits.
