Job summary

Carpenter Technology Corporation is seeking a Chemist III to operate and maintain analytical equipment and collaborate across Manufacturing, Technical Services, R&D and customer teams. You will develop plans to support department goals and participate in projects with various functions to improve processes for specialty steels.

Qualifications

• Requires a four-year college degree in Chemistry or related science field.
• 4-7 years of analytical, environmental or process chemistry experience.
• Able to improve processes, products or services in own function.
• Skilled at managing small projects or sub-teams and coordinating resources.
• Forecasts and plans resource requirements for small projects or sub-teams.
• Monitors costs within own work and may manage costs for small projects.
• Advanced knowledge of chemical analysis, standards, methods and practices; laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Proficient with software including spreadsheet, word processing, graphics and analytical programs.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to interpret customer needs and provide solutions.
• Independent worker capable of addressing standard and non-standard situations.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain equipment.
• Respond to moderately complex requests for chemical analysis from Manufacturing, Technical Services, R&D or customers.
• Develop and implement plans to support department goals.
• Participate in and manage projects with Manufacturing, Technical Services, R&D and other functions.
• Identify and implement improvements to processes used to manufacture specialty steels.
• Coordinate project results at various stages and communicate results in reports and memos.
• Maintain complete and accurate records and documentation.
• Ensure a safe workplace and contribute to quality and environmental initiatives.
