Job summary

Mesa Quantum Systems is seeking a Principal Hardware Engineer to own the board-level electronics for our chip-scale atomic clock. You will lead design of analog RF front ends, microwave synthesis, laser drive electronics, and cross-functional interfaces—hands-on and on-site in Boulder, CO.

You will mentor others and define hardware standards while delivering high-performance, low-noise boards intended for production.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of board-level analog and RF hardware design.
• Experience designing multi-layer boards with mixed analog, RF and digital circuits.
• Hands-on bench work with test equipment and measurement.
• Experience driving design for manufacturability and test.

Responsibilities

• Design and lay out multi-layer precision analog and RF circuit boards from schematic to PCB layout and bring-up.
• Own the precision analog front end including signal conditioning and instrumentation amplification.
• Design and validate the microwave synthesis chain (PLL, VCO) and reference distribution.
• Develop and validate laser drive and thermal control electronics for the physics package.
• Lead hardware design reviews and mentor junior engineers.
• Collaborate with firmware, photonics, and systems teams to optimize noise performance.
• Drive DFx and DfT with PCB fabricators and contract manufacturers.
