Job summary

The University of Alabama at Birmingham invites qualified candidates to apply for a Scientist III position in the Systems Pharmacology AI Research Center (SPARC). The role leads development of novel AI models and software for SPARC's AI-accelerated drug discovery pipeline, directs in silico studies, and guides lab‑in‑the‑loop collaborations with partners.

Qualifications

PhD in biomedical informatics, computing, data science, AI or closely related field.
PhD completed within the last 10 years preferred.
Deep proficiency with modern ML, including deep learning, transformers, graph neural networks, generative models, and foundation models.

Responsibilities

Interpret, organize, execute and coordinate research assignments.
Lead development of AI models and software for SPARC's AI-accelerated drug discovery pipeline.
Direct in silico computational studies and lab-in-the-loop collaborations with partners.
Identify and pursue extramural grant funding opportunities and manage grant documentation.
Publish manuscripts, progress reports and contribute to scientific dissemination.
