Job summary

Subquadratic is seeking a recruiting lead to own end-to-end hiring for research and engineering roles. You will map the field, engage passive candidates, and drive the interview process with hiring managers.

You’ll build scalable sourcing systems, including AI-assisted workflows, to close top talent for an early-stage AI research company. This role collaborates with the Head of People and Talent to shape recruiting strategy, build a diverse pipeline, and maintain strong candidate experiences.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of technical recruiting experience for AI labs, AI research teams, or technical startups.
• Proven ability to source and engage passive technical candidates including researchers and senior engineers.
• Fluency to assess fit from Google Scholar profiles, papers, or GitHub repos.
• Strong, personal writing that elicits responses from candidates.
• Experience closing candidates against offers from leading companies.
• Systems thinking to build repeatable recruiting processes and metrics.
• Hands-on fluency with AI sourcing tools (Claude, ChatGPT) for outreach, scrapers, and ranking.

Responsibilities

• Map the field and maintain a living talent map across labs, universities and conferences.
• Source passive candidates and craft technically informed outreach; maintain warm relationships over time.
• Lead full-cycle recruiting with hiring managers; define success profiles and keep the process fast.
• Close candidates by aligning offers with candidates' goals.
• Create an excellent candidate experience, even for non-hires.
• Build and improve pipeline systems and tools in Ashby; manage agencies effectively.
• Recruit with AI to scale sourcing workflows and personalized outreach.
• Resurface past applicants and near-misses when roles align.
• Grow the pipeline through university relationships and conference presence.
