Job summary

General Motors Company is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to develop data-driven, AI-enabled applications for Product Validation, Safety and Quality IT. You will work with SQL, Databricks, and modern languages like Java and Python to deliver reliable, scalable software for engineering teams.

You will mentor peers, define patterns for data/AI integrations, and drive modernization and cloud initiatives within VEQ.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 6+ years delivering enterprise or full stack software solutions using Java / JEE, Python, and preferably Angular.
• 3+ years of experience with complex SQL queries, functions, and stored procedures, including performance tuning.
• Experience building or supporting data pipelines, ETL/ELT, on distributed or cloud platforms (Databricks, Spark).
• 3+ years of Kubernetes/Docker, Quarkus, and cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
• Experience in Agile/SCRUM development, backlog refinement, sprint planning, and incremental delivery.
• Hands-on DevOps with Git/GitHub, code reviews, automated builds/tests, and CI/CD (GitHub Actions).
• Willingness to learn and apply AI concepts with data and APIs for AI/ML/LLM solutions.
• Strong problem solving to break down complex tech/data challenges into actionable steps.
• Excellent communication; ability to collaborate with technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ownership mindset and focus on delivering measurable value.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain data-driven and AI-enabled applications for Product Development and Quality teams.
• Write high-quality, performant SQL for complex data transformations across enterprise platforms.
• Build and optimize data pipelines in Databricks for batch and near real-time processing.
• Develop backend services/APIs in Java and/or Python integrating data, rules, and workflows.
• Create enterprise-grade apps using Kubernetes/Docker, Quarkus, Java, Angular, PostgreSQL.
• Collaborate with data science/AI teams to productionize AI/LLM solutions and CI/CD.
• Identify and remediate code quality, performance, security, and data correctness issues.
• Lead/participate in architecture and technology decisions aligned with GM standards.
• Apply best practices: code reviews, automated testing, branching, CI/CD, observability, secure coding.
• Work with cross-functional teams to refine requirements and deliver incremental value in Agile/SCRUM.
• Troubleshoot production issues across stack; document and ship stable fixes.
• Navigate corporate processes to remove roadblocks and keep delivery on track.
• Mentor engineers to grow skills in SQL, Databricks, cloud, and AI tech.
• Document software/data solutions meeting GM standards for reuse across teams.
