Job summary

GlaxoSmithKline seeks a senior individual contributor to lead the Enterprise AI opportunity portfolio, scoping high-value AI initiatives and prototyping concrete solutions. You will partner with forward-deployed engineers and data teams to translate strategic goals into fundable AI engagements, while shaping the overall portfolio and governance.

You will not manage engineers but will guide where they work, define success metrics, and ensure projects align with business value.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of professional experience across pharma, AI/ML product strategy, and product management or strategy roles in technology-led organizations.

Responsibilities

• Hunt for high-value AI opportunities across portfolio management and value-realization lifecycle and develop a global portfolio of AI products ranked by impact, feasibility, and time-to-value.
• Quantify value rigorously by building business cases that hold up with finance and executive sponsors - cycle time saved, decisions accelerated, cost avoided, and capacity returned to portfolio and delivery teams.
• Develop domain pattern recognition in portfolio management workflows to spot AI-shaped problems the business hasn’t articulated.
• Own the Enterprise AI opportunity portfolio, maintaining a living view of in-flight, queued, and de-prioritized opportunities with rationale.
• Make hard trade-off calls by defining scope, success metrics, and exit conditions and guiding engineers to where value is highest.
• Say no, with evidence, to opportunities that won’t move scalable outcomes and protect engineering focus.
• Be the strategic counterpart to forward deployed, full-stack, and data engineering leads, translating business problems into crisp problem statements and prototypes.
• Shape engagements end-to-end — defining scope, criteria, exit conditions, and scaling pathways before kick-off.
• Surface reuse and platform leverage, promoting reusable capabilities over one-off solutions.
• Design the human-digital split and decide which tasks the digital workers own while keeping humans in the loop.
• Redesign the portfolio operating model around automation with clear decision rights and cadences.
• Build a reusable skills library with versioning, quality standards, and shared ownership.
• Instrument real-time portfolio insight by merging data from engineering tools, financial systems, and usage telemetry.
