Job summary

The Center for AI Safety Action Fund is hiring a Policy Lead to steer its US public policy strategy from its Washington, DC base. Reporting to the Executive Director, this senior role sits at the intersection of technology and national security, requiring deep policy expertise.

You will translate policy objectives into concrete legislative text, brief lawmakers and staff, and build relationships across federal agencies, Congress, labs, and think tanks while coordinating with the affiliated

Qualifications

• 5-10 years of experience in public policy or national security.
• Preferred: House/Senate Intel or Armed Services committees, IC, or DoW experience.
• Experience developing policy positions, briefing materials, RFPs, and strategic analyses for senior decision-makers.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to operate effectively in fast-scaling, ambiguous environments.
• Genuine passion for AI and safe development.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of our US policy strategy and align with organizational priorities.
• Draft and shape legislative and regulatory proposals for lawmakers and staff.
• Translate policy objectives into concrete policy text and technical input.
• Distill complex technical policy into compelling narratives for leadership.
• Build and maintain relationships with government stakeholders and AI policy community.
• Track legislation, hearings, and regulatory developments in real time.
