Job summary

Lever, Inc. is seeking a Senior AI Engineer (f/m/x) to lead the backend AI infra and production-grade AI tooling in a remote-first setup across Europe, including the UK.

You will own services end-to-end, build reusable AI capabilities, and collaborate with leadership to drive AI-native transformation. The role demands strong Go or Python expertise, practical experience with AI-powered applications, and a security-conscious mindset.

Qualifications

• Significant senior-level experience building and operating production backend systems with Go or Python.
• End-to-end ownership of services including architecture, deployment, and monitoring.
• Hands-on experience with AI- or LLM-powered production applications and model integration.
• Familiarity with AI development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor.
• Understanding of reusable skills, plugins, MCP integrations, and agent workflows.
• Strong pragmatic decision-making on architecture, models, and Build-versus-Buy.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, deploy, and operate backend services and APIs powering internal AI tools.
• Create secure deployment pathways with guardrails for non-engineering teams.
• Develop shared AI capabilities, plugins, and a central registry of internal tools and ownership.
• Advance internal AI services and standard tooling for daily work.
• Evaluate architectures, models, platforms, and build-versus-buy options.
• Define the technical direction and governance for the internal AI platform.
• Establish risk-based reviews and translate governance into technical controls.
• Implement security safeguards for identity, access, secrets, and data handling.
• Move critical AI automations to reliable, maintainable infrastructure.
• Document systems for operability and future extension.
