Job summary

BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee is hiring a Senior AI Engineer for our Facets Claims, Integrations & Operations and BlueCard/ITS division. This fully remote role will lead the design and development of AI platform capabilities and enterprise integrations that connect AI agents with business applications and data sources.

You'll work at the intersection of healthcare operations and artificial intelligence, guiding adoption of advanced AI techniques across our organization and mentoring junior

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in STEM or related field or equivalent work experience.
• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, AI, or ML strongly preferred.
• 5+ years of analytics, technology, software engineering, or healthcare experience.
• 3+ years with machine learning, deep learning, and AI models (e.g., LLMs, diffusion models).
• Proven experience handling large datasets to build and optimize data science pipelines.
• Deep experience with ML/DL frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow) and NLP libraries.
• Experience deploying ML models in cloud environments (GCP Vertex AI preferred).

Responsibilities

• Lead ideation, development, and productionalization of AI solutions tailored for healthcare payer use cases.
• Architect, design, and implement AI models and algorithms using Python and cloud platforms like GCP Vertex AI.
• Partner with product teams to define and prioritize opportunities for applying AI techniques to automate processes.
• Research latest AI advancements and champion adoption of cutting‑edge techniques.
• Develop robust, scalable systems for deploying AI models into production with high availability.
• Serve as technical advisor to internal Lines‑of‑Businesses, translating needs into AI solutions.
• Define evaluation frameworks for AI models to ensure accuracy, fairness, and performance.
• Mentor junior engineers on AI development and system design.
