Job summary

American Express is seeking a Senior AI Engineer to help design and build the Agentic AI Platform that powers enterprise AI capabilities. You will work across AI systems, distributed platforms, cloud infrastructure, and governance to enable safe, scalable AI agents at scale.

You will partner with product, security, governance, and engineering teams to deliver reliable agent runtimes, observability, and CI/CD for AI workloads, while shaping platform standards and developer experience.

Qualifications

• Production systems experience with Python/Java/Go/TypeScript.
• Experience with agentic AI platforms and governance.
• Experience with Kubernetes and cloud-native architecture.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement highly scalable components of the Agentic AI Platform.
• Own complex technical problems from architecture through production implementation.
• Build distributed services and APIs supporting agent execution and lifecycle management.
• Develop integrations with major AI/model ecosystems and managed agent platforms.
• Establish abstractions across models, agents, tools, runtimes, and providers.
• Design systems for agent identity, permissions, policy enforcement, and governance.
• Build observability, evaluation, and experimentation capabilities for production AI systems.
• Develop SDKs, tooling, and automation that dramatically improve developer productivity.
• Design reliable CI/CD and release processes for AI agents and related artifacts.
• Establish patterns for resilience, scalability, performance, security, and cost efficiency.
• Evaluate emerging agent frameworks, protocols, models, and infrastructure technologies.
• Partner with product, architecture, security, risk, infrastructure, and application engineering teams.
• Mentor engineers and influence technical direction through architecture and reviews.
