Job summary

Symetra's AI Enablement team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer I to build core capabilities and APIs behind our products, and lightweight interfaces on top of them. You will mentor junior engineers and help shape our architecture while delivering secure, high-quality code.

The role emphasizes cloud deployment, containers, and collaboration with internal customers across the Data Analytics organization. Hybrid remote-friendly, with competitive salary and benefits.

Qualifications

• Experienced engineer (typically 5+ years) delivering work with minimal guidance.
• Built and operated production services and APIs.
• Comfortable building and deploying services in the cloud (AWS or Google Cloud), including containers.
• Strong problem-solving and communication; able to work with internal customers.

Responsibilities

• Deliver secure, high-quality, performant code.
• Contribute to design: implement patterns, participate in design reviews, shape architecture.
• Help improve how we test, automate, and deliver code.
• Support security, performance, and reliability; participate in root-cause analysis.
• Mentor junior engineers on the team.
