Job summary

Porch Group is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Insurance platform to build and own backend services powering underwriting, rating, and issuance of policies. You will work on an AI-first stack, using agentic tools to ship production-grade features in a greenfield platform.

The role emphasizes hands-on coding, collaboration with product and insurance SMEs, and strong ownership. Remote work from the United States is supported, with core business-hour alignment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building backend services.
• Led at least one project from conception to production.
• Production-grade engineering depth in Python, Java or equivalent backend language.
• Strong systems design fundamentals: distributed and event-driven architecture.
• Hands-on experience with LLM-integrated features (RAG, tool use, agent workflows).
• Familiarity with agentic AI coding tools as part of daily development.
• Able to work with minimal direction in a large codebase and in US business hours.

Responsibilities

• Develop AI-native engineering capabilities using agentic tools.
• Build platform architecture for PAS services (quoting, rating, binding, issuance, endorsements, renewals).
• Design data models for policy lifecycle, exposure management, and regulatory compliance.
• Create migration tooling for automated data extraction, transformation, validation, and reconciliation.
• Collaborate with Product and Insurance SMEs; perform code reviews and mentoring.
• Maintain hands-on production coding weekly and ensure quality bar is met.
