Job summary

Vizient is seeking an experienced AI Platform Architect in Chicago to lead design, deployment, and operation of enterprise AI solutions. You will integrate LLMs, agentic workflows, retrieval, and deterministic processing while guiding a team of engineers and collaborating with product, data, and platform teams.

You will stay hands-on with architecture, ensure production readiness, observability, and strong security, privacy, and governance across high-stakes data and regulated environments.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of relevant experience in complex software or AI systems.
• Technical leadership for production-grade AI projects.
• Experience designing and operating generative AI in enterprise environments.
• Proficiency in Python and modern API development (FastAPI).
• Expertise with large language models, prompt engineering, and retrieval-augmented workflows.
• Experience establishing evaluation strategies for nondeterministic AI systems.
• Strong understanding of probabilistic vs deterministic software boundaries.
• Experience with cloud-native architecture and production observability.
• Experience with Azure or comparable cloud AI platforms.
• Experience with Databricks, vector databases, embeddings, or semantic search.
• Experience handling sensitive, regulated data in AI decisions.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, development, deployment, and operation of enterprise-grade AI solutions.
• Design solutions using LLMs, agentic workflows, retrieval, structured data, APIs, and deterministic processing.
• Translate complex workflows into modular, testable software components.
• Determine where AI inference, deterministic logic, or retrieval yields reliable outcomes.
• Establish evaluation strategies with tests, analytics, and monitoring.
• Develop observability capabilities for intermediate outputs and decision traces.
• Lead investigations into grounding issues, model performance, and costs.
• Evaluate tradeoffs across performance, security, and maintainability.
• Develop APIs and production components; contribute to code reviews.
• Implement security, privacy, and production-readiness practices for AI apps.
• Mentor engineers and improve AI engineering practices.
• Drive continuous improvement using metrics and real-world outcomes.
