Job summary

Vanguard is seeking a Senior Data Scientist / AI leader to helm enterprise conversational AI initiatives, spanning voice, chat, and agentic experiences. You will guide problem formulation, experiments, and deployment, mentoring junior teams and shaping technical standards for responsible AI.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of Data Science/ML or applied AI experience with leadership
• Strong ML/AI fundamentals: supervised/unsupervised learning, feature engineering, evaluation
• Expertise in NLP and Generative AI, transformer models and LLMs
• Hands-on experience with agentic AI systems and multi-turn conversations
• Strong Python and data-analysis skills, large datasets
• Experience with AI/ML evaluation, observability, and production monitoring
• Ability to translate complex problems into measurable research questions and product impact
• Proven ability to lead and mentor data scientists and analysts

Responsibilities

• Serve as a senior technical leader for AI/ML capabilities across enterprise conversational AI
• Drive data science across the full AI lifecycle from formulation to deployment
• Lead development of traditional and agentic AI/ML solutions and evaluation
• Advance production intelligence for conversational AI with rigorous quality measures
• Develop scalable evaluation approaches and benchmarks for AI systems
• Translate data insights into actionable product and engineering recommendations
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Architecture, UX, Analytics, Risk, and stakeholders
• Establish standards for model development, experimentation, and responsible AI use
• Continuous improvement of conversational and agentic systems through experiments and signals
• Communicate complex AI concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Stay current with advances in AI/DS and evaluate new methods and architectures
