Job summary

Gatik is seeking a Senior Systems & Safety Engineer for AI/ML to bridge deep learning with rigorous safety engineering for Level 4 autonomous vehicles. You will define functional safety and SOTIF strategies, establish OOD criteria, design runtime AI safety monitors, and develop evidence-backed safety cases for ML components.

This on-site role at the Santa Clara, CA office requires 6+ years in safety engineering with AI/ML and deep ISO/UL standards expertise.

Qualifications

• MS/PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, or related field.
• 6+ years in systems/safety engineering or autonomous systems, with at least 3 years focused on AI/ML safety.
• Deep working knowledge of ISO 21448 (SOTIF), ISO/PAS 8800, UL 4600, and ISO 26262
• Strong understanding of sensor modalities (LiDAR, Radar, Cameras, IMUs) and failure modes in adverse conditions.

Responsibilities

• Lead the implementation of ISO 21448 (SOTIF) and UL 4600 frameworks across AI/ML pipelines.
• Derive safety requirements and performance boundaries for neural networks and DL models.
• Design and validate AI safety guardrails, OOD detectors, and runtime monitoring mechanisms.
