Job summary

Blue Origin in California is seeking an experienced Software Engineer (AI/ML Ops) to join our Automation Team. You will embed value-add AI into manufacturing systems, working with automation engineers, data scientists, and software engineers to deploy scalable AI across facilities.

The role focuses on building robust ML pipelines, monitoring deployed models, and ensuring secure, high-performance AI solutions in an industrial setting. Strong collaboration and communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of professional software development experience with focus on real-world ML deployments.
• Extensive experience with ML tools/frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
• Familiarity with manufacturing automation including robotics, PLCs, and machine vision.
• Experience with AI edge deployments and OT device integration (e.g., Simatic NPU).
• Experience with serverless computing frameworks and agile/scrum environments.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
• Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate across teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategies for deploying ML models into automation products.
• Manage end-to-end ML project operations for robust, scalable deployments.
• Build and maintain data processing, training, and inference infrastructure at scale.
• Set up monitoring for AI/ML models in production to ensure performance and reliability.
• Automate ML pipelines including data collection, preprocessing, training, deployment and monitoring.
• Collaborate with data scientists, data engineers, and software engineers to streamline workflows.
• Ensure AI/ML systems meet security standards and data privacy requirements.
• Tune and optimize ML models to reduce latency and improve efficiency.
• Evaluate and integrate tools/frameworks for training, deployment and monitoring (MLflow, Kubeflow, TFX).
• Maintain documentation of processes, configurations, and performance metrics.
