Job summary

Toyota North America’s AI & ML Platforms team seeks a Principal AI Governance & Security Engineer to shape governance, security, and deployment of enterprise AI solutions. This hands-on role blends policy, risk, and production software to build scalable controls that keep AI use safe and compliant.

You will partner across Legal, Privacy, Model Risk, Cybersecurity, and business teams, owning risk classifications, lifecycle gates, and guardrails from concept through production at scale.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of software engineering experience with AI/ML governance and information security for AI/ML
• Designing and implementing enterprise AI/data governance frameworks and production governance processes
• Translating security, risk, privacy, and compliance requirements into executable controls and tests
• Deep understanding of AI/model risk with knowledge of SR 11-7, NIST AI RMF, EU AI Act, ISO/IEC 42001
• Practical AI security depth—threat modeling, guardrails, IAM, secrets, least-privilege
• Governing and securing GenAI, RAG, and agentic systems with registries and evaluation frameworks
• Strong production software/automation skills with cloud (AWS preferred) and CI/CD
• Strong communication to explain AI risk and controls to engineers and executives

Responsibilities

• Shape the enterprise AI governance framework, policies, and lifecycle controls for AI use cases and models
• Operationalize intake, risk classification, control design, approvals, monitoring, and remediation gates
• Define risk tiers and controls aligned with SR 11-7, NIST AI RMF, EU AI Act, and ISO/IEC 42001
• Own the Agent Registry and AI inventory as the truth source and prevent shadow deployments
• Translate governance policy into repeatable, testable engineering controls in collaboration with the AI Governance team
• Perform AI-specific threat modeling and risk assessments and design mitigations across data, model, application, and infra layers
• Design guardrails and least-privilege controls for agents; manage secrets and mediated tool access
• Embed with use-case teams to design and ship controls within governed boundaries
• Lead design reviews, set engineering standards, and mentor engineers across governance and security stacks
• Build reusable guardrail services, evaluation pipelines, and MCP/registrations using AWS Bedrock/Lambda/CI/CD
