Job summary

Steampunk seeks a Senior AI Governance Analyst to lead and oversee governance for its predictive and generative AI systems, ensuring safety, ethics, security, and regulatory compliance. Qualifications

• Ability to hold a position of public trust with the U.S. government.
• 5+ years of AI governance, risk management, data ethics, compliance, or responsible technology roles.
• Strong understanding of federal policies, standards, and frameworks related to AI (NIST AI RMF, EO 14110, OMB AI guidance, MLSecOps, privacy law).
• Demonstrated experience embedding governance controls into AI/ML development workflows (docs, reviews, lifecycle risk).
• Familiarity with LLMs, RAG systems, and generative AI architectures; assess risks across these techs.
• Experience conducting algorithmic or model risk assessments and responsible AI reviews.
• Strong communications skills to explain governance requirements to engineers, execs, and clients.
• Ability to analyze technical systems, identify risks, and propose mitigations grounded in policy.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of AI governance frameworks aligned to federal policies and emerging regulatory requirements.
• Drive AI risk identification, assessment, and mitigation to ensure ethical, legal, and security standards for AI systems.
• Oversee creation and maintenance of model cards, data cards, lineage records, and impact assessments.
• Collaborate with engineering and product teams to embed privacy, fairness, transparency, and explainability into AI systems.
• Partner with evaluation scientists to establish governance-aligned quality thresholds and ongoing monitoring for model outputs.
• Support compliance activities related to data usage, provenance, confidentiality, prompt injection defense, and secure model interaction patterns.
• Develop governance review processes, including AI readiness assessments, model approvals, and continuous assurance.
• Conduct research on regulatory trends and advise leadership on implications.
• Communicate governance requirements and findings to diverse audiences across programs.
• Mentor junior analysts and contribute to templates, playbooks, and reusable assets.
• Contribute to the growth of Steampunk’s AI & Data Exploitation Practice.
