Job summary

Capital One is seeking an Applied Researcher 4 to advance AI foundations and large language model core capabilities. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered banking experiences, building foundation models from design to deployment using PyTorch, Huggingface, and cloud platforms.

You will engage in high-impact applied research, translate complex work into business outcomes, and contribute to internal reports and conferences while mentoring junior researchers.

Qualifications

• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Mathematics, or related fields (or MS with 2 years of applied research experience).
• Experience building large deep learning models (language, vision, events, graphs) and expertise in training optimization, self-supervised learning, robustness, explainability, RLHF.
• Hands-on experience developing AI foundation models and solutions using open-source tools and cloud computing platforms.

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products that change how customers interact with money.
• Leverage PyTorch, AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, Lightning to reveal insights from large data sets.
• Build AI foundation models from design through training, evaluation, validation, and deployment.
• Translate research into tangible business goals and collaborate on internal reports or conference submissions.
