Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Distinguished Applied Researcher to join the AI Foundations team in Cambridge, MA, tackling large-scale ML models and AI foundation systems that power customer experiences.

You will collaborate with data scientists, engineers and product managers to train, evaluate and deploy cutting-edge AI models, using PyTorch, AWS Ultraclusters, HuggingFace and related tools, while advancing research in alignment, robustness and explainability.

Qualifications

• PhD in Computer Science, AI, Electrical/Computer Engineering or related fields plus 4 years of applied research experience, or MS with 6 years of applied research.
• Experience in building AI foundation models and scale model training.
• Proficiency with open-source tools and cloud computing platforms.

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered platforms and solutions.
• Build AI foundation models through all development phases.
• Engage in high-impact applied research to advance customer experiences.
• Leverage a broad tech stack to uncover insights from large datasets.
• Translate complex work into tangible business goals.
