Job summary

Capital One is seeking an AI Engineer 4 in San Jose, CA to design, deploy, and optimize large-scale AI systems. You will work with engineers, researchers, and PMs to advance foundation models, inference, and multi-agent workflows, while ensuring governance, security, and ethical alignment.

You will mentor juniors, contribute to the technical roadmap, and collaborate with infrastructure to maximize GPU/TPU efficiency and reduce latency. This role offers strong pay and incentive opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields plus at least 4 years of experience developing AI/ML algorithms or technologies
• Master's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields plus at least 2 years of experience developing AI/ML algorithms or technologies

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional team of engineers, researchers, PMs and product managers to deliver AI-powered products
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components including foundation model training and inference
• Leverage Open Source and SaaS AI technologies such as AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, PyTorch
• Invent and introduce foundation model optimization techniques to improve performance and cost
• Contribute to the technical vision and long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems
• Own the end-to-end architecture for complex AI systems with maintainability and observability
• Define and maintain SLAs for AI reliability including latency and model drift
• Collaborate with infra engineering to optimize GPU/TPU utilization and model pipelines
• Lead cross-functional technical reviews for new AI deployments ensuring security and governance
• Mentor senior engineers on scalable design and production translation
