Job summary

DrFirst is seeking a Principal AI Engineer to architect and deliver production AI automation systems across HR, Finance, Legal, and Marketing. You will own end-to-end technical implementation from discovery to deployment and mentor engineers while collaborating with department leaders.

You will work in a remote-first environment, shipping multiple tools per sprint, and engaging with 15+ stakeholders. Strong AI/ML, security, and SaaS experience are essential.

Qualifications

• 8+ years building production systems end-to-end.
• Staff/Principal Engineer or Tech Lead experience.
• Shipped SaaS products with OAuth2, multi-tenancy, audit trails.
• Deep AI/ML experience with production systems using LLM APIs.
• Production Python: FastAPI, Pydantic, httpx, pytest (1000+ test suite).
• AWS and Kubernetes: EKS operations, GitLab CI/CD, ArgoCD, Helm, Secrets Manager.
• Enterprise security patterns: proxies, SSL certificates, Kubernetes networking.
• Healthcare or regulated industry experience (HIPAA, SOC 2, or similar).
• Strong communication, discovery sessions, and security trade-offs explanations.
• Servant leadership mindset and ability to unblock teams.

Responsibilities

• Architect and build production AI automation systems.
• Design multi-agent coordination systems and workflow orchestration.
• Develop Python/FastAPI backends and Next.js frontends.
• Integrate with HRIS, ERP, CRM, and finance systems.
• Implement security and data protection with CISO collaboration.
• Mentor 2-3 engineers through code reviews and pairing.
• Run discovery sessions with department VPs.
• Ship 3-5 production tools per sprint.
• Coordinate with 15+ stakeholders across departments.
