Job summary

Abrigo seeks a Principal Applied AI Engineer to shape AI capabilities across our engineering org. You will design production agent systems, deliver reusable frameworks, and mentor teams to adopt AI safely and effectively.

The role reports to Platform Engineering leadership and offers flexibility to work from a few US locations or remotely. You will drive architecture and implementation of AI workflows, coordinate across Platform Engineering, Cloud Operations, and product teams, and ensure high

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in software/platform/infrastructure engineering with technical leadership.
• Production experience with LLM workflows or agentic automation including tool calls and retrieval.
• Strong Python and backend engineering skills; experience with APIs and developer platforms.
• Hands-on experience in AWS services (IAM, Lambda, S3) and observability tooling.
• Knowledge of security risks, controls, and safe AI deployment practices.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform) and automation in cloud environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture and delivery for applied AI initiatives across Platform Engineering and product teams.
• Build reusable agent frameworks, interfaces, and reference implementations for adoption by teams.
• Design reliable AI workflows with state, recovery, autonomy, and human approval as needed.
• Set production practices for evaluation, observability, security, reliability, cost, and controlled rollout.
• Embed safe retrieval, tenant isolation, auditability, and secure tool execution in patterns.
• Evaluate models and frameworks, and compare build-vs-buy options using quality and cost data.
• Influence technical direction through design reviews, mentorship, and hands-on delivery.
• Occasional travel for team events to support engagement and decision-making.
