Job summary

People In AI is seeking a hands-on AI/ML engineer in NYC to own production AI systems from concept to deployment within a fast-growing startup. You will ship agents and multi-step LLM workflows that enrich claims data and integrate with existing backend and data pipelines.

This IC role emphasizes ownership, reliability, and rapid iteration while collaborating with CTO, ML, backend, and operations teams to deliver real operational workflows.

Qualifications

• Strong Python and backend engineering skills.
• Experience shipping and maintaining AI agents or LLM workflows in production.
• Hands-on experience with orchestration, tool calling, APIs, and data pipelines.
• Strong ownership from ambiguous requirements through deployment and iteration.
• Product-focused mindset and comfort working in a fast-moving environment.

Responsibilities

• Build and ship production AI agents and multi-step LLM workflows.
• Develop agents that enrich claim information using permissible public sources.
• Build internal workflows to help operations review ambiguous records.
• Integrate agents with existing backend, data, and ML systems.
• Monitor production performance, investigate failures, and improve reliability.
• Work closely with the CTO, ML, backend, and operations teams.
