Job summary

Capital One is seeking an AI Engineer 4 for Gen AI Platform Services: Agentic Systems in McLean, VA. You will join the Intelligent Foundations and Experiences team to advance AI engineering and deploy proprietary AI solutions that impact millions of customers.

You will design, train, deploy, and optimize foundation models, agents, and pipelines, with emphasis on governance, observability, and scalability. The role grows with cutting-edge AI research and production deployment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/AI/EE/CE or related field with 4+ years of AI/ML experience or master’s with 2+ years
• At least 4 years programming in Python, Go, Scala, CUDA, or Java
• 6 years deploying scalable AI solutions on cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure, or private cloud)
• Experience designing, delivering, and supporting AI services and agentic systems

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional engineers, researchers, PMs, and product managers to deliver AI-powered products
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components including training, inference, agents, and observability
• Leverage Open Source and SaaS AI tech such as AWS Ultraclusters, HuggingFace, VectorDBs, PyTorch
• Invent optimization techniques to improve performance, cost, latency, and throughput of AI systems
• Contribute to the technical vision and roadmap for foundational AI systems at Capital One
• Own end-to-end architecture for complex AI systems with maintainability and ethics in mind
• Define and maintain SLOs for AI reliability (latency, uptime, model drift)
• Collaborate with infrastructure to optimize GPU/TPU utilization and model inference pipelines
• Lead technical reviews for new AI deployments ensuring security and governance
• Mentor senior engineers on scalable design and production translation
