Job summary

Capital One is seeking an AI Engineer in McLean to help build responsible AI systems across banking products. You will partner with engineers, researchers, PMs to deliver AI-powered solutions from foundation models to production pipelines.

The ideal candidate has 6+ years in AI/ML, strong Python and system design skills, and a track record balancing performance with cost. You will influence technical direction and collaborate across teams to advance Capital One's AI capabilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field with several years of AI/ML experience.
• Proficiency in Python and one or more of Go, Scala, Java, CUDA.
• Experience in developing AI/ML algorithms and production systems.

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components including model training and inference.
• Leverage Open Source and SaaS AI tech such as AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, PyTorch.
• Invent foundation model optimization techniques to improve performance, cost, latency, and throughput.
• Contribute to the technical vision and long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems.
• Design and optimize multi-model orchestration pipelines integrating LLMs, vector search, and domain models.
• Establish cost-performance governance reviews across AI systems, tracking GPU utilization, model throughput, and inference cost efficiency.
• Mentor junior engineers, elevating organizational technical maturity.
