Job summary

U.S. Bank is seeking a Principal AI Engineer to accelerate AI adoption across the enterprise. This senior IC will blend hands-on engineering with technical leadership to identify high-value AI opportunities and build secure, scalable, production-ready solutions across the organization.

The role collaborates with business and technology teams to develop AI capabilities, reusable frameworks, and intelligent automation, while expanding AI engineering expertise across the bank.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience.
• Eight or more years of relevant experience.
• Experience designing and delivering enterprise AI, Generative AI, or intelligent automation solutions.
• Hands-on Python, APIs, pipelines, and modern software engineering practices.
• Experience with LLMs, RAG, and AI governance is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deliver enterprise AI and Generative AI solutions from concept through production.
• Develop scalable AI solutions using Python, APIs, pipelines, and cloud AI services.
• Build solutions for complex structured and unstructured information, including document intelligence and data extraction.
• Apply LLMs, Agentic AI, RAG, and prompt engineering to business use cases.
• Create reusable AI frameworks, accelerators, components, and integration patterns.
• Partner with teams to evaluate where AI is the right solution and design practical approaches.
• Establish strong engineering practices across testing, security, quality, scalability, and deployment.
• Provide technical leadership and mentor engineering teams to expand AI capabilities.
