Job summary

General Motors Corporation seeks a Sr. Systems Engineer to lead deployment and modernization of plant-floor software across GM manufacturing sites. You will build AI-enabled deployment workflows, integrate PLCs with MES data, and ensure reliability and security in production environments.

You will work hands-on with CIMPLICITY, OPC UA/DA, Kepware, and cloud/onsite infrastructure, driving automation, testing, and documentation while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience integrating applications with PLCs, robots, or automation equipment in manufacturing.
• Hands-on experience deploying and maintaining shop-floor software on plant IT infrastructure.
• Experience with industrial protocols, PLCs, and plant-floor data collection and integration.
• Experience designing or operationalizing AI/ML solutions in manufacturing.
• Experience with generative AI, LLMs, prompt engineering and AI-assisted software development.
• Experience with predictive maintenance, anomaly detection, or manufacturing analytics models.
• Experience creating natural-language interfaces for operational or time-series data.
• Knowledge of IT enterprise security and data protection; Kepware experience.

Responsibilities

• Deconstruct deployment processes to make them AI-centric, secure, repeatable, and scalable.
• Deploy, configure, update, and maintain shop-floor software on plant IT infrastructure.
• Collaborate with IT to install and configure virtual servers in plant data centers.
• Design and implement AI/ML capabilities, including predictive maintenance analytics.
• Establish validation, testing, and security practices for AI-generated configurations.
• Travel to plant locations for workshops, testing, and deployments.
• Develop and maintain software, deployment automation, and testing tools.
