Job summary

The University of New England is seeking a Senior AI Programmer Analyst to design, develop, deploy, and optimize AI/ML solutions that advance academic, administrative, and research missions. This role reports to the Director of Data, Intelligence, and Automation and collaborates across ITS, academic departments, and stakeholders to deliver scalable AI capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, information technology, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of progressively responsible experience in enterprise systems administration, configuration, development, or support.
  • Experience with at least one major enterprise student information and/or ERP platform.
  • Experience developing and maintaining system integrations using APIs, ETL tools, middleware platforms, or file-based exchange methods.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as SQL, Python, Java, Groovy, or Apex.
  • Knowledge of enterprise systems security administration, RBAC, and data governance principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate requirements into effective technical solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, and deploy AI/ML models, pipelines, and applications
  • Develop solutions using large language models (LLMs), generative AI, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG)
  • Write clean, maintainable code (primarily Python) following best practices
  • Evaluate and implement AI tools, frameworks, and platforms (Azure OpenAI, Hugging Face, LangChain)
  • Build and maintain data pipelines to support model training and deployment
  • Integrate AI solutions with enterprise systems via APIs (ERP, SIS, CRM, LMS, etc.)
  • Collaborate with ITS teams to ensure security, scalability, and high performance
  • Support data quality efforts and monitoring for model performance
  • Contribute to AI governance frameworks and documentation
  • Mentor and lead knowledge-sharing to promote AI literacy across the organization
