Job summary

Gusto is seeking an AI-native Design Systems Designer for its Builder Enablement team to evolve Workbench and support AI-assisted design workflows. You’ll craft tokens and components, pair with engineers, and guide AI tooling for designers and developers.

The role combines rigorous systems thinking with AI fluency, contributing to documentation, tutorials, and LLM-friendly outputs while aligning with a mid-Brand Refresh strategy.

Qualifications

• 4+ years on a product design systems team covering design, implementation and documentation.
• 7+ years in product design with system-level thinking and craft.
• Proficiency with AI tools as a core workflow component.
• Ability to pair with engineering and contribute to implementation plans and code repos.
• Strong WCAG AA accessibility understanding shaping tokens and components.
• Expert in AI design tools and Figma, with token usage and prototyping skills.
• Clear documentation and ability to educate peers across disciplines.
• Experience with LLM-friendly docs, MCP servers, or AI-assisted tooling.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain Workbench components and patterns with tokens and variants.
• Own semantic and functional token architecture during Brand Refresh and theming.
• Collaborate with engineers on design decisions, code reviews, and PRs.
• Develop AI tooling docs, Storybook examples, and system-LLM readability.
• Support designers/engineers via Office Hours, Slack, and async reviews.
• Document design decisions and component rationales for reuse.
• Shape component architecture and migration strategies during Brand Refresh.
